Mark Sampson's women became the most successful England football side for almost 50 years when they beat Germany for the first time to finish third at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.
A Fara Williams penalty in extra-time gave Mark Sampson’s side their historic 1-0 win after a fiercely fought encounter in Edmonton in which both sides gave their absolute all.
Germany are two-time world champions, European Champions and heavy favourites going into this competition. England on the other hand were expected to have done well if they simply made it out of their group, although Sampson insists he and his team always believed they could go all the way.
