Sunderland were the better team here. They were superior in terms of energy and creativity against a Newcastle team rather inexcusably playing – to use the term their manager hates– with their ‘flip-flops on’ once again.
Nothing Dick Advocaat’s home team did, however, was anywhere near as exquisite as the goal that won this contest for them. It was a goal seemingly taken from another day and dropped haphazardly right in to the middle of a game that didn’ t really deserve it.
Alexis Sanchez outdid both of his team-mates with a 22-yard piledriver on the stroke of half-time.But with a brilliant first touch he evaded both of them - sending Kolo Toure to the floor - before taking a touch to set himself and fire home a piledriver from 22-yards - leaving Simon Mingolet with no chance.
Wayne Rooney - playing as a striker - proved again why he is most effective when in the opposition's area.
The Man controlled a cross from Angel di Maria with his left foot, spun and smashed a half-volley with his right into the top corner and past the helpless Brad Guzan.
Sandwiched between two goals from Ander Herrera, Rooney's 12th league strike of the campaign helped Manchester United to a comfortable 3-1 win over Aston Villa and kept alive any lingering hopes of an unlikely title challenge.
Charlie Adam The former Liverpool midfielder cancelled out Eden Hazard's penalty with an audacious 66-yard effort from inside his own half, catching out Thibaut Courtois who had strayed well off his line.
Adam has previous when it comes to long-range goals - he scored a similar effort from the halfway line Blackpool's reserves against Accrington Stanley in 2009 - but given the opposition and the sweetness of the strike, this must go down as the best goal of his career so far.
Ultimately Adam's goal counted for nothing as Loic Remy pounced after the break to secure a 2-1 win for the hosts, but on a weekend of stunning goals the 29-year-old can at least celebrate being top of the charts.
Bafetimbi Gomis Relishing his role as Swansea's No 1 striker after the departure of Wilfried Bony in January, it was Bafetimbi Gomis who spectacularly struck first on Saturday afternoon.
Already 1-0 up against struggling Hull, the hosts doubled their lead when the Frenchman came back from an offside position and acrobatically launched himself into the air to smash a powerful bicycle kick past Allan McGregor
If you think there's a goal i missed out on..let me know..
